Last week, the most important and widespread travel page — TripAdvisor, named San Jose del Cabo as the number one destination to visit for 2017; above other popular destinations such as Hawaii. Now the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) has named Los Cabos the “Golf Destination of the Year in Latin America and the Caribbean” for 2017.
Genaro Ruiz, Secretary of Tourism in Baja California Sur proudly acknowledged this to the secretariat and the entire tourism sector.”We are full of pride to have been recognized by this organization. We are the Golf mecca of Latin America.”No other destination has 14 golf courses, designed by the best golf architects, in the most picturesque locations.
“The topography and the natural beauty of our golf courses are spectacular.A couple of days ago we had a golf tournament attended by our ambassador Esteban Toledo. He remarked positively, that every time he goes abroad, Los Cabos is recognized by this sector; and we are very happy and proud to have received this distinction as a top destination.”
In Los Cabos, approximately 180,000 rounds of golf are played per year, which translates into important gains for both the municipalities and the state, with Los Cabos being the supplier of more than 50% of the state’s GDP.
The PGA Tour is the main North American men’s professional golf circuit. According to the statements of Genaro Ruiz, in conjunction with hoteliers, timeshare and businessmen; they are working toward setting a date for the tour to take place on Los Cabos courses.”It is a challenge, and a goal we are seeking together with the Association of Hotels, ASUDESTICO and the Coordinating Council, to establish a date.”
On Friday afternoon, Governor Carlos Mendoza Davis, governor of the state, toured the municipality of Los Cabos, and inaugurated Diamante’s Golf Course. This spectacular new course joins the existing 14 in Los Cabos; now 7 of which are ranked in the 11 best in Mexico, and two in the top 10 worldwide.
